Giving Tuesday

This is the time of year where we stop for a moment and reflect on who and what we are grateful for in our lives. I’d like to take one of those moments and think about James Denman Middle School and all the really great people that dedicate their daily lives to our children, to their learning, their experiences and to prepare them for the their next stage – High School.  

Our leadership team, teachers, volunteers and support teams at James Denman make this an awesome space for our kids–a space where they feel safe and are surrounded by people that are passionate about their learning. Many of the activities and learning opportunities reach beyond what the district provides our school and the support comes from us–parents and families. By donating we make these opportunities available.

I’m reaching out to ask for you to give to our Pride Fund Campaign this year. This money is used to support our teachers and students in all areas of the school, to strengthen learning, to teach beyond the curriculum, to inspire and provide opportunities. As this money comes in, it goes right back out so your child benefits in this school year.  We are currently working on two new funding projects for the school which we are hoping you will rally behind. The first is 40-50 books per classroom supporting Science Literacy for the 8 Science Classrooms. The second is funding for screen displays with tamper free cases on each floor of the building, displaying the daily schedule–what’s going on that day and upcoming events within the school.

Last year these were some of the areas we funded through PTSA support; the wellness center, baseball uniforms, classroom tools,  literacy kits, 200 books and bookcases for each of the 11 ELA classes, the kiosk in the office for information sharing, costumes for Hamilton, teachers training for Readers & Writers Workshops, robots, PE speakers, PE equipment, field trips, food, celebration activities and student acknowledgements just to name a few.  Notably our money goes a long way but we need around $35K to do it. So far we have around $18K and are very thankful to those that have donated, we are over halfway already and working to meet this goal.

Let’s aim for more and more positive experiences available to our students. Please consider giving. Donate at, it can be a monthly subscription or a one time donation. It’s 100% tax deductible. If you would like to write a check please make it payable to the James Denman PTSA and give to Ms. Liany in the office or mail it to Denman PTSA,  241 Oneida Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94112. If you work for a company that has a matching program please consider utilizing it, it’s a nice way to double your donation.
